VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

PLOVER COLLECTION CENTER

This is just a partial listing of the duties of the various volunteer opportunities. Please remember that this is a Christ-centered ministry.     For more information, please email us at: NCW OCC

Volunteer positions:

Greeter:          This position greets the people delivering shoeboxes and directs them to the proper person. The greeter may also need to help the delivery person fill out the paperwork. This volunteer also helps unload and move shoebox gifts.

Food Server:  This position sets out the food brought by the Ladies Serving Team, sets out the snack items provided, makes sure the food and snacks are kept fully stocked, and, if necessary, serves the other people working during the shift. This position is not responsible for preparing the food unless the person filling this position volunteers to do so for that particular shift. A gift for hospitality is an asset for this position.

Carton Packers: These positions are responsible for packing shoeboxes into the shipping cartons. It is an absolute imperative that the count (of the number of shoeboxes packed into each carton) is accurate. These positions require good organization, ability to conceptualize spatial relationships and maximize the available space, and attention to detail. Patience is definitely a virtue for these positions!!!  If you are not good at 3d puzzles or math, please consider a different volunteer task.

Receivers:       These positions are responsible for counting the shoeboxes as they come in, keeping individual deliveries together in one spot, and keeping an accurate count of how many shoeboxes came in with each delivery. These positions will also triage the shoeboxes (check rubber bands, check for proper wrapping) to ensure the boxes are ready to be packed into cartons.  ALL SHOEBOX DELIVERIES ARE COUNTED AT LEAST THREE TIMES to ensure accuracy.

Unloaders:     These positions are responsible for helping unload deliveries of shoeboxes. It is necessary to remember to place each delivery in its designated spot, and not to mix up deliveries.

REMINDERS FOR VOLUNTEERS

Please sign up for specific shifts.

Arrive 15 minutes ahead earlier than your shift start time.

The first half hour of each shift will be devoted to prayer, learning the roles of volunteers, training, Q & A, and catch up on work from prior shifts.

The last half hour of each shift will be for catch up, correcting mistakes, and cleanup.

Volunteers may be shifted to different tasks as needed.

Volunteers are encouraged to fellowship with each other and with the guests bringing shoebox gifts.

While things can get hectic, remember to relax and have fun while working!

God is in control, and things will work out!

While Operation Christmas Child is a family-oriented ministry, the Collection Center environment itself is not always conducive to child-oriented tasks, or to taking care of children during the shift. We encourage you to make child care arrangements whenever possible. If you want or need to bring your child with you, please:

            DISCUSS IT FIRST with the Coordinator;

DO NOT allow your child to help with Collection Center duties unless pre-arranged with the Coordinator - this will be determined on an individual basis according to age, etc.

Bring along enough activities to keep them happily occupied

A meal prepared by volunteers will be available during each shift. Volunteers are encouraged to brings snacks/beverages to share during their shift.
